49ers' Challenge

About 49ers' Challange

Organizers of Investment Game 2012 invite you to participate in the 49ers' Challenge and feel the spirit of the 1848-1855 California Gold Rush. This time, though, the challenge takes place in the biggest intellectual gold mine of the world — international financial markets. While the tools you will be using have evolved – pickaxes and gold pans are replaced with investment strategies and financial knowledge, all else remains nearly unchanged. Just as the original 49ers, you will be putting your skills, determination and luck to a test as only one team will emerge victorious and take home a piece of pure gold!

Win a Golden Coin

The 49ers' Challenge is a team-based Investment Game sub-competition open exclusively to teams from universities, business schools and student-run investment funds. The teams will compete for pride and honor of their represented organizations as well as the chance to win a valuable and prestigious prize — a golden coin.

Gameplay Rules

Similarly to regular Investment Game 2012 rounds, yielding the highest returns will not be the only deciding factor when choosing the winning team. In addition to generating significant returns, the 49ers' Challenge teams will have to apply portfolio management techniques and utilize the available financial instruments to balance their investment risk exposure and ensure steady growth. The particular winning criteria and their weights will be announced before the start of the challenge.

How to participate?

To prove that your team has the best investment strategy, stock picking skills, excellent knowledge of financial instruments and ability to work well together, send us your team application at ifund@sseriga.edu with your names, contact details and the name of the organization you will be representing. Team size should be no less than 3 and no more than 5 people and only one team from the same organization is allowed.

The deadline for team applications is March 11, 2012.
