Russian Stock Market Overview23/01/2006-28/01/2006
This week the RTS stock market has been quite active in trading shares and the overall turnover value has been steadily going up. The major driving factors for this were such companies as Savings bank of Russian Federation (Sberbank) and some of the major oil companies like LukOil, Surgutneftgas and Transneft. The values of shares of Mining and Metallurgical Company Norsilk Nickel went up significantly as well after it was announced that they are about to establish a joint venture together with one of the world’s biggest mining companies Rio Tinto. This weekly overview is intended to take a closer look at the most important of these stock market fluctuations.
The shares of LukOil (LHOK) are apparently very successful: only within last month their value has increased by slightly more than 1/3. This week was no exception to this trend - the price of the shares of LukOil kept on gradually going up and by the end of the week it was worth 4.09% more than in the beginning. The reasons why the value of shares rocketed in the middle of the week were as follows. On Wednesday LukOil made an official press release stating they have found the biggest oil-well in the Caspian see over the past 10 years. This was followed by official statements about increased efficiency and reduced costs which will allow the stability of the fuel prices during this heating season. Given all this, it seems that the company is successfully increasing their shareholders’ value.
For Sberbank (SBERG) the previous week turned up to be very successful and active as they made 82 deals (19 352 shares were traded) with the total turnover 24 482 709 EUR. The shares price has expirienced a noticable increase – by the end of the week it has climbed by 3,3% and it also predicted to keepn on going in the same way. Such conclusion can be made due to the fact that on 26th of January a new project in partnership with such well-known huge companies as Visa International and “Megafon-Moscow“ was started. The project is called “Mobile Bank – Verified by Visa“ and is aimed at providing a range of additional services to customers and at promoting Sberbank in Russia.
Tatneft (TATN) shares price has been growing considerably and by the end of the end its price increased by 7%. All in all, the last week was quite active for the company since it made 18 deals (560 000 shares were sold). The total turnover of this company was 1 926 181 EUR. Such successful performance of the company‘s shares couls be a consequence of the fact that Tatneft made a serious charitable step by instituting the prize and scholarships named after Sazhida Suleimanova, which all can be considered as a ponderable contribution into implementation of the Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintemir Shaimiev announcing 2006 as the year of literature and art.
