VSE (Vilnius) Market Overviews

Lithuanian Stock Market Overview
16/01/2006- 21/01/2006

The ratio of increased and decreased shares was 0.9 as there were 18 rises and 20 falls in Lithuanian Stock Market in week 3 this year. There were overall 2204 deals made and the total turnover in the market amounted 5,756,459.42 EUR. The most active company was Mažeikių nafta (MNF1L), which has made 657 deals and thus ended up the week with the greatest turnover of 1,747,046.39 EUR. What is more, Pramprojektas (PRM1L) demonstrated the worst performance with the hugest drop in stock value by 13.89%. Another noticeable company was Alytaus tekstilė (ATK1L) with the rise of 14.81% in share price.

Alytaus tekstilė (ATK1L) is performing quite well the second week in a row. However, only government invested 1.45m EUR in its authorized capital so far. In the end of December, 2005 the company reduced its authorized capital from 16.64m EUR to 13.47m EUR trimming down its debts by 29m EUR. Besides, Alytaus tekstilė started a new shares emission 0.29 EUR per share and expected that shares would be bought by the main creditors of the company. Unfortunately, creditors refused to take part in the emission because it would be economically unrewarding to buy shares at 0.29 EUR when they actually are valued at 0.09 EUR in the market. Thus, the share price probably will go down.

Mažeikių nafta (MNF1L), the largest oil refining company in Lithuania, started a new year, 2006, being the second one in terms of turnover; however, this week the company improved its performance and distinguished itself as the leader with the biggest turnover reaching 1,747,046.39 EUR. The company became quite popular among customers as they received positive information about its further prospects. Investors are particularly interested in negotiations with Yukos executives that will be held on 26th January. They hope the deal will secure a new strategic investor as well as a cash windfall for the government.

Pramprojektas (PRM1L), one of the major qualified engineering consulting companies in Lithuania, sustained a dramatic change in value as the share price lowered by 13.89% from 2.09 EUR to 1.80 EUR. Starting the new year the company wants to attempt customers regarding that the previous week it did not trade in Vilnius Stock Market at all. However, this week was not successful for the company as it made one of the smallest turnovers of 1,507.87 EUR.
