TSE (Tallinn) Market Overviews

Esto1nian Stock Market Overview
12/12/2005-1/12/2005

It seems that the stormy and sometimes unpredictable Estonian climate has had an influence on Tallinn stock market situation. Last week’s turnover was described as extraordinary high, but this week a new record is made – the overall turnover is equal to €33,974,957.24, about 6.5 million euros bigger than last week. OMX Tallinn index fell down sharply by 2.22% from 676.26 to 661.24. Nine companies’ stocks out of the total fifteen went up this week, however, the turnover made by the remaining six is much higher, which can explain the overall index fall.

One of this trading week’s leaders is Tallink Grupp (TAL1T), a shipment company organizing carriage of passengers and cargo between Estonia and Scandinavia. The biggest amount of deals was made with its shares, however, the stock value decreased by 7.34%. Moreover, the company’s share trade had the biggest turnover this week - €27,334,429.84 a number is close to last week’s overall turnover. The main reason for such high activity is that the company increased its share capital and submitted to the Tallinn Stock Exchange the 26,500,000 new shares. Tallink Grupp entered Estonian stock exchange market with a boom, but from the beginning its stock value is falling. It is hard to predict in which direction the trend will go, so it is quite a risky investment.

Tallinna Kaubamaja (TKM1T) experienced a share value rise of 5.49% this week, the highest in the Tallinn Market Main List. This is mostly due to the recently published news about the opening of a new supermarket in Pärnu, Estonia in the beginning of 2007. The store will be owned by AS A-Selver, a daughter company of Tallinna Kaubamaja AS. Apart from that, Christmas is a high-time for department stores, especially the ones owned by Tallinna Kaubamaja AS, and it can be predicted that the stock value will continue increasing as the shareholders expect high performance.

It seems that AS Eesti Telekom (ETLAT) still reaps the consequences of the decision by Estonian Communications Board from November 28 to declare AS EMT (a 100% subsidiary of AS Eesti Telekom) a significant market power, putting obligations and restrictions to ensure market competitiveness. The share value of Eesti Telekom has been falling since the end of November, from the time the intent was published. This week’s result was a 1.83% decrease in the company’s stock value. It cannot be said when exactly the value recovers, but it is sure to happen in the long run.
