SSE (Stockholm) Market Overviews

This week OMX Stockholm 30 Index (OMXS30) decreased by 2.46, with only 5 stock prices going up, 1 remaining unchanged and 23 going down. The major winners were AstraZeneca (AZN), Swedish Match (SWMA) and TeliaSonera (TLSN), while the losers were SSAB A (SSAB A), Sandvik (SAND) and SEB A (SEB A).

The stock price of AstraZeneca (AZN) rose by 8.11% and closed at price of €30.80. AstraZeneca is a pharmaceutical company, which discovers, develops, manufactures and markets prescription pharmaceuticals. As pharmaceutical company shares not always are affected by market declines related to the economy because health care is a necessary expense. That is why in a short-term the trend of this share price going up is supposed to keep the upward sloping.

Even though TeliaSonera (TLSN) is one of the top gainers of this week, this company ended up with negative changes in its stock price. The change was -1.63% with the closing price of €6.38. TeliaSonera was founded after the merger of Telia AB and Sonera Corporation 5 years ago and it has been operating successfully since then. The company is one of the largest European telecommunications companies which provide its services not only in the Nordic and Baltic regions, but also in Russia, Turkey, etc. However, the negative alteration in the stock price might have been influenced by last week’s server crash which led to 300,000 customers losing emails. The company has promised to send affected clients a gift certificate and in such a way to apologize for inconvenience they have caused. Nevertheless, this crash may have a long-term effect on TeliaSonera’s reputation and so it might have impacted the decrease of share price.
