VSE (Vilnius) Market Overviews

05/11/2007-09/11/2007

This week was not very different for OMX Vilnius from the previous week. The OMX Vilnius index dropped by 2.95% and closed with value of 548.72. Overall, the total turnover of the week was 12 132 571 EUR, whereas the number of deals doubled comparing to previous week and reached 5730. There were only 2 rises versus 10 falls in OMX Vilnius main list. The situation on the secondary list was a bit more interesting, as 9 companies advanced and 14 dropped. However, the turnover of both lists winners was below average. The biggest winner on the main list was Snaigė (SNG1L). The biggest losers were Panevėžio statybos trestas (PTR1L), City Service AB (CTS1L) and Ūkio bankas (UKB1L).

Snaigė (SNG1L) is the manufacturer of household refrigerators, freezers and their spare parts. The stock value increased by 6.93% from 1.88 to 2.02 EUR, generating turnover of only 187 231 EUR. The number of deals was 17. As it is seen from a trend which lasts for more than half a year, the value of Snaigė shares is expected to decline further.

One of the biggest commercial banks in Lithuania Ūkio bankas (UKB1L) this week was the most popular among the investors, what was reflected by the biggest number of deals in the main list equal to 1653 and the turnover of 2 807 985 EUR. However, the value of stock decreased by 6.40% from 1.33 to 1.25 EUR. Since the beginning of the week, the value of this stock was decreasing, facing the lowest price of 1.20 EUR on Thursday. On Friday the stock value increased mainly because of that on Saturday Ūkio bankas had to make an announcement of the Bank's non-audited activity results for ten months of 2007. Although, the results were positive, the value of the share is predicted to decline next week.

Another company worth mentioning is Rytų skirstomieji tinklai (RST1L). In the middle of the week it seemed that this company will be one of the biggest winners this week, as the value of stock reached 1.48 EUR. But on November 8 the Board of Rytų skirstomieji tinklai AB ratified the project of application of prices and tariffs of electricity. Due to previous announcement the price of this stock was decreasing, therefore, the stock is expected to continue losing its value in the beginning of the next week.
