The OMX Helsinki 25 (OMXH25) index
increased by 0.91% this week, reaching 3294.69. Overall, 16 stocks gained value
while only 9 stocks experienced a decrease compared to Monday’s opening prices.
The winners of the week are Outokumpu
Oyj (OUT1V) and KONE (KNEBV) while
value of Uponor Oyj (UNR1V) decreased quite a lot. The ultimate winner of the week
is Outokumpu Oyj (OUT1V), an international stainless steel company, which
experienced a huge increase of 16% from 22.2 EUR to 25.91 EUR. The increase in
price was mainly caused by an announcment made on Tuesday - company announced
investing 240 million euros into stainless steel value-added special products
and service centers. The price of stocks rose steadily until the midday of Wednesday, then fluctuated over remaining week.
KONE (KNEBV) is one of the world’s
leading elevator and escalator companies. In 2006, KONE had annual net sales of
EUR 3.6 billion. Stock’s opening price on 22/10/2007 was 51,2
EUR and at OMXH25 closing on 27/10/2007 stock’s value was 55,59. That’s an
increase of 8.57%. KNEBV’s value has been rising steadily with minor exceptions
for two years as this company has achieved great profits and
liquidity/profitability ratios. On 23/10/2007 KONE released information about
its financial performance 01/2007 - 09/2007, both sales and profits have grown
by aprox. 20% so this share is expected to grow, despite to the fact that there
was a minor decrease in stock’s price on Friday, compared to Thursday.
It was a peculiar end of the week
for Outotec Oyj (OTE1V), a worldwide
technology leader in minerals and metals processing. Overall, the price of
Outotec’s stocks changed from 49.87 EUR to 48.75 EUR, a drop of 2%. As the
company was about to release its quarterly financial report on Thursday, the
price of stocks dropped quite much - it was probably because there were some
rumours that the report was expected to be not satisfactory. However, as
Outotec has reported solid and high key figures, the price of the stocks was
recovering until the stock market was closed on Friday afternoon.
One of the biggest losers of the week in
OMXH25 is Uponor Oyj (UNR1V), a
company that produces pipes and heating systems. UNR1V stocks decreased in
value by 1.76 EUR over the week that is 8.66 percent compared to opening price
in 22/10/2007 (20.32 EUR). The biggest drop was on 26/10/2007 when the stock’s
value decreased by 1.39 EUR (18.56). The company has performed well in the
first three quarters, but on Thursday the company announced that demand for
their products had weakened ant that the third quarter has been really
challenging.
A
stock worth mentioning is also Telia
Soner AB (TLS1V). Value of it didn’t change a lot throughout the week, but
as third quarter’s financial information was released on Friday, the value of
it jumped from 6.33 (25/10/2007 closing price) to 6.71 (26/10/2007 closing
price) and that is 6%.
