Vilnius OMX index decreased by 0,89%. Mainly it was due to the fact that shareholders, after some announcements of financial results, decided to fix gained profits. This week Ukio Bankas (UKB1L) was noticed with the biggest weekly turnover of €16.325.853,36 in the whole market. What is more, Pramprojektas (PRM1L) was the leader of the market according to the increase in stock value, which was only 6,08%. This week the oldest private commercial bank Ūkio Bankas (UKB1L) announced its financial results for the year 2006. According to them, the company earned 12,3 millions euro, which is 2,2 times more than in 2005 and 38,9% more than it was expected. Thus, some shareholders fixed profits and also some people invested in company’s stocks. Increase in the demand as well as in the supply of Ukio bankas stocks resulted to the greatest weekly turnover in the whole market of €16.325.853,36. Negative tendencies in all over the Europe affected also Lithuanian market. Therefore, the increase in stock price of Ukio Bankas was only 0,46%. Nevertheless, due to the fact that the demand for shares of this bank should remain quite huge, it is expected that stock value will increase in the short run as well as in the long run.
Lithuanian communication company TEO LT (TEO1L) experienced weekly turnover of €14.831.481,33. Shares of this company are quite marketable because company expects to reach really good results. In addition, investors are interested in these shares because TEO LT has not still announced its financial results for 2006. Furthermore, there is small possibility that the owner of TEO LT “TeliaSonera” might sell the Lithuanian communication company and some reforms might be introduced. Thus, taking all facts into consideration, it should not be surprise that in the long run the stock value will increase.
Alytaus Tekstile (ATK1L), one of the largest producers of cotton and mixed fiber in the Baltic States, is having a thin time. Company expects to have a loss of 1,245 million euro this year. What is more, this week the president of the firm V. Nauduzas left office. Due to these facts and fact that the company owes 4,35 millions for suppliers of public utilities, Alytaus Tekstile might go bankrupt. All these problems affected stock value which was fluctuating around €0,12 per share this week. Press claims (www.respublika.lt) that governmental donation of at least 5,79 millions euro should be introduced to save the company. The company has been donated since 2004. The big amount of money (8,1 millions euro) was spent not for the company’s development but for social problems. Due to this fact, the government might refuse to donate Alytaus Tekstile once more. Thus, it is strongly recommended not to invest money in shares of this company.
