VSE (Vilnius) Market OverviewsLithuanian Stock Market Overview 19/02/2007 – 23/02/2007
This week companies in Vilnius Stock Exchange have shown negative results as there were 23 falls in stock value versus 16 rises. Consequently, the Vilnius OMX index decreased by 1.31%. In addition, the market was quite passive and total weekly turnover amounted only to 13,453,889.2 EUR which is almost two times less then previous week (€26,567,286.86). The number of deals was also smaller than usually – only 3636. The quarter of them were made by Ukio Bankas (UKB1L) which was also the leader of weekly turnover of 2,671,746.14 EUR. What is more, Panevezio Statybos Trestas (PTR1L) experienced the highest growth in stock value in the Main list by 4.21%. The biggest increase in share price (4.32%) in the I-list was demonstrated by Klaipedos Juru Kroviniu Kompanija (KJK1L). The loser of the week can be called Limarko Laivininkystes Kompanija (LLK) which was noticed with the huge decrease in stock value by 8.54%.
This week one of the biggest commercial banks in Lithuania Ukio Bankas (UKB1L) was noticed with the biggest weekly turnover of 2,671,746.14 EUR as well as with the largest number of deals – 862. The shares of this company remain demanded as they are still cheaper comparing with shares of the banking sector in the whole Europe. Moreover, this week it was announced that Ukio Bankas is going to increase its authorized capital by additional contribution. This new is important for traders because it might affect the stock value in the future negatively as well as positively. Taking not into consideration what will be the new emission price, this factor will bring more advantages than disadvantages. The bank will become more trustworthy for investors as well as for traders. Thus, it is expected that stock value will increase in the long run but it might fluctuate in the short run depending on the new emission stock price.
The banking sector remains interesting and demanded for investors as well as shares of Siauliu Bankas (SAB1L) whose weekly turnover amounted to 2,401,595.79 EUR. During the week its stock value increased from 1.18 to 1.20 EUR per share. It is expected that the share price is going to be stable in the short run due to the fact that traders hope that the bank will share its profit with shareholders by giving them free shares or will offer to buy them at lower than market price. It is much better than dividends for both shareholders and the bank. Shareholders can avoid income tax and the bank can keep their finance inside the company.
This week Zemaitijos Pienas (ZMP1L), one of the largest dairy producers in Lithuania, experienced the growth in stock value by 2.6%. Last year the company earned 11.8% more than it was expected and 18.1% more than in 2005. Traders are still interested in this company as it is still low-priced comparing with other dairy producers in Lithuania. At the same time investors are a little bit cautious. The company was reorganized some years ago and at the present company does not distinguish itself with clearness and openness for small shareholders.
